At Strand, we use the term artist frame to reference a frame that an artist will be putting original artwork into. Original artwork is generally drawn on paper, stretched canvas or canvas boards which are purchased from various businesses. Please note that the measurement of your drawing on paper, stretched canvas or canvas board is the most important piece of information you will need in order to purchase a frame that will fit..

Original Artwork on paper

If your original artwork is on watercolour or some other form of paper then it makes the ordering process much easier. Essentially you can use any standard frame and mount combination as paper is quite thin and will fit into the all standard frames.

For example lets say you have a 16 x 12inch paper drawing. If you purchase a 16 x 12in frame there will be no room for the mount. This can often leave a piece lacking a sense of depth. Generally a 1.5 to 2 inch mount all around will work well for your artwork. Importantly, please see the image below to compare using a mount vs not using a mount.

Canvas Floater Frame

Our Canvas floater frames come in 2 different options. Our standard 20mm wide frame or our 10mm wide frame. 7047 Range

Our 7047 range is a beautiful solid wood frame which is 70mm wide. This makes is a very strong frame which is ideally suited to framing canvas boards or stretched canvas.  The product comes as frame rim so it is important you have measured your canvas exactly. Generally when you purchase a canvas there will be some information on the size but its best remeasure the canvas as some canvas brands can warp over time which means they may not fit into a frame for that size! Artist Double Frame
